DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Jevorn Serrant emerged as one of the big winners as a host of prizes were captured last Saturday, October 5, 2013 during the Hon. Julian Fraser/Save the Seed Intermediate basketball league's All Stars event at the Save the Seed Energy Center in Duffs Bottom.

Three games held between the Junior Division, over-40 players and Men’s Division were separated by a number of other mini-competitions and prizes from sponsors of the event.

Serrant captured a total of $300 in cash prizes for winning the 3-point shootout and slam dunk/dunk out competitions as well as the MVP award for the Men’s All Star game on Saturday night. Coincidentally, each of the $100 cash prizes were sponsored by Caribbean Insurances Ltd (CIL).

Meanwhile, Rhonda Williams-King secured a $50 gas voucher courtesy of M&M service station for winning the free throw competition for ladies while Simba Smith secured a $50 gas voucher from SOL (BVI) after winning the 3-point competition held for fans.

A mobile phone was also provided to Roy ‘Yellow’ Garraway for winning the half-court shot competition for old school players.

In what may have been the biggest prize up for grabs in the evening, Jamal Serrant swooped up a $600 gift certificate towards an insurance policy sponsored by Nagico Insurance after he succeeded in his first attempt at a half court shot.

The playoffs begin in the intermediate league this Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Save the Seed Energy Center.

Planned For The Night Was A Huge Surprise For One Of The Game's Legends:
Thomas Richardson Sr.

Richardson Sr. awarded for basketball contribution by Hon. Fraser
October 9th, 2013

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Hon. Julian Fraser/Save the Seed Basketball League conveyed a special award this past Saturday, October 5, 2013 to Thomas Richardson Snr. for his contribution to the sport of basketball in the community.

Richardson received the award for his contribution to the sport as a player as well as for refereeing duties and other contributions made towards the BD League over the past four years.

The award was handed over by Third District Representative, Hon. Julian Fraser RA.

Richardson, in accepting the award, stated that it was quite a surprise and added that he never expected to receive any sort of recognition for his years in the sport.

The award recipient expressed appreciation for the acknowledgement and stated that he would continue to do whatever he could in making a contribution towards the sport in the community.

Coach Milton C. McLean said Richardson was highly deserving of the award and noted that the honouree had always given one hundred and ten percent of himself as a player. “Whatever we call on Brother Tom to do, he’s been there like a trooper,” Coach McLean related.

He further described Richardson as a man of discipline who placed a lot of
effort into whatever he did.
