Fraser Spending Some Quality Time With The Youth Of His District
SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI – with little fanfare and not much support Milton McLean keeps on doing what he does best and on Monday August 20th, 2012 he did it again with the launching of the Sea Cows Bay Basketball Club Under 10 Inter District Showcase League.
After a brief Opening Ceremony at which McLean stated the purpose of the
Tournament was to display Basketball Skills and to work together “There will be five of you on court so learn to work together. I want you all to do your best whether you win or lose and feel good about yourselves” he stated. Member for the 3rd District, the Honorable Julian Fraser, RA was also on hand and expressed equal amazement at the efforts McLean goes to in organizing these events “Another dynamic undertaking of yours” he commented to McLean. Fraser went on to address the two teams assembled for the first match “ The organizer of this event could have been anywhere right now, home relaxing, or out making money, but he decided to sacrifice his time to be here. Why do you think he chose to be here? Well in ten years from now you will be in college and in another ten years you will be leading the country, right? – Well if you don’t have a steady upbringing and learn the values of teamwork and discipline you won’t be able to lead effectively and that is what McLean is trying to instill in you” “This is a good foundation” he continued,” play to win, be satisfied that you have done your best and if you can hold your heads up at the end and say you tried your hardest then win or lose, all of you will be winners.” Albion’s Attackers took a nerve wracking 20-19 win in game 1 over Parson’s Punishers, but it wasn’t until with 60 seconds left that they took the lead for good. In fact they had been down by as many as 5 points up until half way through the final quarter. The Punishers should have had the game all sewn up well before then though as they had by far the majority of play and shots. Cekoi Smith led the Attackers with 7 points and two assists, whilst Keshawn added 6 points with two rebounds and K’Andre Clarke finished with 5 points and 1 rebound. For the Punishers, Elroy Matthew scored 9 points with 4 rebounds, 12 steals and 1 block. Marlon Hodge finished with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 assist and 3 blocks, with Enrique Jafarally adding 4 points, 1 rebound, 3 steals and 2 assists. In game 2 the Punishers bounced back with a 27-25 win against Cherry Ghut Crushers. Elroy Bollers topped the scoring charts with 11 points, 12 rebounds, 9 steals, 4 assists and 3 blocks. Jafarally underlined his potential with 10 points and 4 rebounds whilst Jermaine Arthur Junior added 6 points and 3 steals. For the Crushers Malaki Smith notched 12 points with 5 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists and 3 blocks with Ryan Adams scoring 12 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 blocks. Games in the Tournament continue all week with tomorrow’s highlight an exhibition game between the under 16 teams of Monei and Real Tool at 5pm on the Court in Sea Cows Bay. |
